General

Van de Lande B.V. (VDL) is a specialist in injection molding and the production of PVC-U, PVC-C and PE fittings for PVC piping systems. Van de Lande is distinctive in the width of the program, with continuous efforts to further improve the products. All this makes VDL a trusted brand for producers of systems and installations, for over fifty years.

PVC-U

- Solvent cement jointing: 10 mm up to 400 mm
- Solvent cement jointing: 1/4” up to 6”
- Threaded fittings: 1/4” up to 8” BSP

PVC-C

- Solvent cement jointing: 10 mm up to 110 mm
- Threaded fittings: 1/2” up to 2” BSP

PE Compression fittings

- Compression joints: 16 mm up to 110 mm
- Threaded fittings: up to 4” BSP

Material

PVC-U (PVCh) = Unplasticised polyvinylchloride (with tin based stabilizer)
PVC-C =  Post-chlorinated PVC
PP = Polypropylene
PE = Polyethylene

Gaskets

Gaskets supplied as standard are made from:
EPDM Ethylene Propylene Diene Methylene
FPM Fluorinated Propylene Monomer (Viton®)

PVC-U

PVC-U is a Polyvinylchloride without plasticizers that is extremely suitable for very wide applications, such as:
  • Chemical installations
  • Portable water applications
  • Food and beverage industry
  • Sanitary and swimming pool technology
  • Irrigation

The main advantages of PVC-U are:

  • Excellent chemical resistance
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Easy installation
  • Durability
  • Low maintenance

Pressure and temperature diagram

PVC-U has very good properties in a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C. At lower temperatures the impact resistance clearly decreases.

Figure 1

Figure 1 shows the maximum operating pressure for PN16, PN10 and PN6 fittings. This information is based on a lifespan of 50 years with a safety factor of 2.5.

Chemical Resistance

The chemical resistance of PVC-U depends on the conditions of use and must be assessed for each situation.
For more information, see the chemical resistance list.

Dimensions and standards PVC-U

The fittings correspond to the following standards:
  • DIN 8063
  • ISO 727
  • KIWA nr. BRL-K 504

PVC-C

PVC-C is a post-chlorinated PVC. PVC-C has a number of distinguishing features in comparison with PVC-U which lend significant added value to piping systems. The two most important and essential differences are:
  • A higher temperature resistance of up to 80 °C;
  • An excellent chemical resistance at high temperatures
These two important additional features are combined with the favourable properties that are ascribed to PVC-U:
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Easy installation
  • Lightweight
  • Durability
  • Low maintenance

Areas of application

PVC-C combines the favourable features of PVC-U with two important additional properties. A high temperature resistance (of up to 80 °C) and an excellent resistance to different chemical products such as acids and alkaline solutions at high temperatures. Due to these features, the areas of application are wider than with PVC-U.

PVC-C is used in the following sectors (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Water treatment systems
  • Industrial hot water systems
  • Metal treatment systems
  • Beverage and food industry
  • Chemical process industry

Pressure/temperature diagram

PVC-C has very good properties in a temperature range of 0°C to 80°C. At lower temperatures the impact resistance clearly decreases.

Figure 2

Figure 2 shows the maximum working pressure for PN 16 fittings in relation to a service life of 25 years. The values for PVC-C as from 70 °C apply to a service life of 10 years.

Chemical Resistance

The chemical resistance of PVC-C depends on the conditions of use and must be assessed for each situation.
For more information, see the chemical resistance list.

Thermal expansion and shrinkage

PVC piping systems must be designed in such a way that no stresses occur as a result of thermal expansion and shrinkage. The thermal expansion coefficient of PVC-C is 7.1 x 10-5 m / m·K (DIN 53752).

Tube support distances

In general, the pipe support distances can be determined by checking the DVS 2210 standard and the manufacturer's instructions. More information about the use of VDL tube clips and tube clamps can be found can be found here.

Dimensions and standards PVC-C

The dimensions of the fittings are according to EN-ISO 15493
